There are several prerequisites to the object oriented capabilities:
lCapability of defining complex operations
lStore complex operations in the database
lExternal procedure calls Some operations may not be in SQL, or may require external interactions

SQL3 Timing
Work on SQL3 is well underway, but the final standards is several years away.
lInternational ballot to progress SQL3 Foundation from Working Draft to Committee Draft (CD) taking place fall, 1996.
lBallot is expected to generate numerous comments
lA second CD ballot is likely to be required
lDraft International Standard ballot is likely to be take place in mid 1998
lInternational Standard could be completed by mid 1999.
The ANSI version of the standard will be on a similar schedule.
